How to make your future employer notice you?
Today, for every job ad you have tens and hundreds candidates, I we created few advices that can help you to get advantage to other candidates.
Get your qualities shown to your future employer, not just your interests
Interests, that are part of every CV, are things that you like to work, but not the things that you know to work. If you, for example, put in that you like the music, you will be same as other 90% of world population, but if you put that you know to play some instrument or write songs and thanks to that you meet a lots of people, that would be very important information to your future employer. That will be signal to him that you are active person, who is not satisfied with average. But proactive, communicative, and you know how to use you skills and willingness for achieving results.
Don’t write common general CV
Large number of candidates will with CV apply for every open job. Your resume should consist of something that will be interesting to your future employer. Most important are your qualities that could help you working on position that you apply. In other words, if you apply for IT job, your resume should have you skills and work experience in IT. And secondly date of birth, schools or marriage condition.
Get connected with people
Sometimes good job is not get by most talented or most qualified candidate, but the person with good contacts. That is very important thing. Contacts. To get ready for that at first mark the companies that are your interest group and after think of who you know there. Even, if you don’t know anybody there, use your friends to see if they know anyone who would give you recommendation. But, all this is ok if you really are qualified for certain job, and not to use your friends for other purposes.
Don’t wait that desired company you want to work for make an job ad to apply. You can send your resume to HR managers and other documentation that is important for that job and useful to your future employer. In that way they could always see you as someone who will improve their business somehow or help solve some problems.
Don’t sit at home and do nothing, get some experience
Volunteering in nonprofit companies, some cooperation with college colleague, freelance, are ways to get some experience. In that way not just important or you, it’s important for companies too. That’s why you should be active in searching for a job. Do what you know to do, learn, get experience, even unpaid one. And also improve your skills so all that will help you get a job or change it in a future.
Show that you care
Every employer loves to see that you care. Send them cover letter that are not “group” letters, write one especially for that job application. It’s useful to maybe input logo of the company to where are you applying or something like that, to adapt your CV or cover letter to that desired company so they could see you know a lot about the company.
When on interview, don’t be like on interview
To your interviewer most important are your skills, but you are person that will spend at least 40 hours a week on that job. It will be as important to be communicative and interesting on the interview. Be spontaneous, make them laugh.
Be persistent and accept success and failure as part of a life
In large number of cases you can achieve success going round and slow, not fast and direct. That’s why it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get your dream job at first try. Work some other job, that maybe is far away from desired one. But look at it as “jump board” to your dream job.
